Customer Stories: Humboldt Neurohealth Therapeutic Services

14. August 2024

Meet Humboldt Neurohealth Therapeutic Services from Northern California!

This month, we're thrilled to shine a spotlight on Humboldt Neurohealth Therapeutic Services, a valued customer for more than a decade, now boasting 17 neurofeedback providers! With their holistic approach to wellness, Humboldt Neurohealth has transformed the lives of many, empowering individuals and families through a combination of neurofeedback, individual therapy, and trauma-informed care.

One client shared their profound experience: "It's definitely worth it to try out Neurofeedback. [It] helped lower my overall stress response and prepared me to take on EMDR. I highly recommend this practice if you are seeking a trauma-informed clinician who demonstrates great empathy and overall understanding.”

Humboldt Neurohealth shares another powerful story that comes from a survivor of significant trauma. After years of dealing with severe flashbacks and sleep disturbances, "Neurofeedback has made a big difference in the overall quality of my life, mainly due to the significant reduction in my chronic [mental health] symptoms. After a neurofeedback session I feel more present, relaxed, and have a greater sense of well being. I am able to concentrate, where as before I could not."

The impact of neurofeedback extends beyond individual clients to their families: "My wife tells me that doing neurofeedback has saved our family. I don't react to situations anymore. I am more loving and compassionate." For many, it has also been a lifeline: "[I've] been going for a long time, and it's life-changing. They really helped and saved my family."

Group Leader:

Shari Johansson
RDH, MA, LPC, NCC, BCN, QEEG-D

Shari has been a therapist and LPC Supervisor for nearly 30 years, both in private practice and in the University setting. Always a student of science, Shari dove into neurofeedback in 2015 after seeing how this modality effectively resolved her son’s ADHD symptoms and her daughter’s temporal lobe seizures.

Only 2 weeks into her quest, she attended the ISNR conference in Denver and naively enrolled in a QEEG class. She met Jay Gunkelman at that conference as he was throwing a big bash to celebrate his birthday. With the fascination of neuroscience and meeting the larger-than-life personalities, Shari was thoroughly hooked. These years later, she still considers herself a novice that has only touched the tip of the monolithic iceberg of neuroscience and neurotherapy. She currently teaches didactic courses and is a certified mentor for both BCN and QEEG certification.

Neurofeedback and neuromodulation has been a game changer personally and professionally with her most challenging, treatment resistant clients. So, although the learning curve is steep with no plateau in sight, Shari is grateful to be on this path.
